Unlike many activities and sports, International Taekwon-Do is something the whole family can get into and do together. Families training Taekwon-Do together
It is common for families to start as kids – a parent brings their six or seven year old along to International Taekwon-Do, and sits down the back while their child trains. After a while, they decide to give it a go, and a few years later, the whole family is involved.
It is great to find a physical activity that the family can do together. Each can progress at his or her own pace, or sometimes parents decide to progress at the rate of the children so the family remains together on the same grade. One of the great things about International Taekwon-Do is the ability to make these decisions – so long as you achieve your goals in Taekwon-Do and enjoy your training, we are happy. "Families that kick together stick together!" - Master Rocky Rounthwaite Classes
International Taekwon-Do is more than just kicking and punching. We encourage our students to live by the Tenets of Taekwon-Do:
These tenets provide strong benefits of training for kids and families. The culture of International Taekwon-Do reinforces universal family values, such as respect, trust and honesty. It is important to us that children respect their parents; usually parents find new reasons to respect their children, too. The material is often based more on the kids syllabus, but there will be time at classes when adults are able to focus on their own syllabus. Adults are also encouraged to also train on weekday evenings at the adult/youth class. We have specialised separate classes for younger children of 4-6 years, 5-10 years and 10-12 years. For many families the family class is supplementary training where they get to share their Taekwon-Do training together. If you and your children are in Riccarton, Burnside or the wider Christchurch area, and want a great activity for your kids come along to International Taekwon-Do and have a go!
