What will my child learn at the programme?
This School Holiday Programme is especially designed for beginners to get a taste of Taekwon-Do during one hour training sessions over the two weeks of the school holidays. Classes are designed to be fun, action packed and include many aspects of Taekwon-Do at an introductory level including: self-defence, games, pad work, stretching, flying kicks and more!
What should my child wear and bring to the sessions?
Please prepare your children for the sessions by them:
having a named water bottle
wearing comfortable clothes for movement, preferably with long loose pants
note: as Taekwon-Do is a martial art, children will be asked to remove their shoes while training
We also ask that parents and guardians please stay during the session in case your childneeds you. There will be seating nearby, and tea and coffee available for you so you can come along, sit back and enjoy the session.
Where do I take my child for the programme?
The sessions are at Cobham Intermediate School Hall, 294 Ilam Road, Burnside. There is off street parking at the school at the end of the main entrance driveway, please see our map here»
Please arrive 10-15 minutes before the start of the session
Children will be welcomed by our instructors and attendance taken prior to the session on Zen Planner
If you arrive after the session has started please come in quietly and your child will be assisted in joining the class at the next suitable moment
Will my child train with kids of the same of different ages at the programme?
Our sessions are grouped with similar ages, however if you think your child may be better suited to a different age group, e.g. they are about to have a birthday and will move into the next age group soon, or they are bigger or smaller than most other kids their age, you can reserve them a spot in different session.
I have more than one child attending of different ages; can they attend the same session?
Yes that is fine, you can reserve them all a spot at the same sessions if you like. Try and choose the session that they are all closest to in age, or size for kids of a similar age.
Will my child be injured doing Taekwon-Do?
Our programme is very safe.We have measures to ensure we minimise risk of injury or harm including warming up and stretching.Accidents can happen – but are very rare. We have instructors qualified in first aid at all sessions.
Is Taekwon-Do for boys and girls?
Yes absolutely! Our classes are a mix of both boys and girls.
Does my child need to have had previous martial arts experience to be part of the programme?
Not at all;Taekwon-Do teaches all of the basic aspects of the art at a gradual pace.
Will Taekwon-Do teach my child to be violent or aggressive?
On the contrary! We teach children the best way to avoid fights and what it means to be respectful and polite; while lifting their self-esteem and confidence.
What is the best age to start my child in Taekwon-Do?
We have students as young as 3 and as old as 63 who start, age is definitely not a restriction! We are now trialing a family class where you can also train with your children. Taekwon-Do is an activity where you and your child can practice together and practice at the same level and progress at the same time.
Can my child join if the programme has already started?

How many sessions can my child attend?
Your child can attend one session per day - for as few or as many sessions as you would like to come to during the programme. Many children only come for one or two sessions, and others come every day during the programme. If you are thinking of your child starting in our regular classes then we would recommend them coming to a minimum of 2-3 sessions to see if they enjoy it.

It would be great if your child has a friend who also wants to attend, however we need their parent's / guardian's consent for them to participate. You are welcome to bring them along with your child, though please ask their parents to complete the application form for their child here»
