How did you get started in Taekwon-Do?
I started Taekwon-Do to discipline myself and also to pursue my identity as a Korean-Japanese. I found Riccarton club after looking up online and started training there in 2006 under Mr David Oliver, along with fantastic fellow members.
When did you receive your first dan?
In May 2010 in Auckland. The grading was conducted by Master McPhail, Master Rimmer and Mr Grahams. We got to do sitting stance punches for a good hour...
When did you start instructing, and at which school?
I started helping around in the kids class after getting my 1st dan, firstly at Pulse club where I was training once a week at that time, and later at Riccarton club. I took over Miss Helen Caley when she left for Auckland for work in May 2012.
What do you think is most important in a school?
The people, passion and perseverance. Without members who share the same goals and encourage each other it's so hard to push it to the limit. You get a lot of good friends there and it adds more fun to the training.
